Bluegrass in the Ozarks (Part Two)

This is a continuation of a two part post, please see part one here. So, on to Friday and Saturday at Mulberry Mountain for Yonder Mountain String Band's Harvest Fest! Friday started off quickly, with our good friends in Useful Jenkins kicking things off on the Main Stage.  I had turned in early ("early" by festival standards...about 4 am) to get some sleep the night before, in order to be ready for UJ's set at 12:30 pm, so I was feeling pretty good.  The Sun was warming up the fields and we had a decent day on our hands (at least at first).   As with most daytime sets, it takes...

Bluegrass in the Ozarks (Part One)

Harvest Fest! Mulberry Mountain, SE of Fayetteville, Arkansas was the setting for Yonder Mountain String Band's Harvest Music Festival.  My first journey to Arkansas for a music festival, Harvest Fest was quite the experience.  "Wow, you came a long ways" was the typical response I received when I answered the inevitable, "where are you from?" query upon meeting so many new folks.  After working the Upper Midwest festival scene all Summer long, it was nice to journey South for some (slightly) warmer temperatures. The band I work with quite closely, Useful Jenkins of Mankato, MN was set for a couple...

Everybody on the Bus!

Well the last month has been quite crazy!  I'm deep in the midst of editing Festival Express, the music video I shot with Useful Jenkins while at Wookiefoot's Shangri-La Festival last month.  The music video shoot was a crazy, intense, and amazing experience.  We raised the budget for the shoot successfully via Kickstarter, so I really feel the pressure to produce a great product for the band and the fans.  We tried to capture some of the essence of Harmony Park in this video, hopefully you'll see it sometime in November!     Shangri-La was quite busy this year, in addition...

Big things on the horizon for Shangri-La!

August has been an exciting month so far.  The funding period for my Kickstarter with Useful Jenkins to finance a new music video just wrapped.  It was a great success!  We raised almost $2,500 in 30 days for the production of the video.  Principal photography for the video will occur at Wookiefoot's Shangri-La Festival Sept 6th-8th at Harmony Park Music Garden outside Geneva, MN.  I also just finalized an agreement partnering with Tim McGuire of Helium Dolphin Video to capture several songs of Wookiefoot's headlining performance at Shangri-La.  We're collaborating with Mark Murphy of Wookiefoot...

No Meteors So Far

I went out to Palisades State Park in an attempt to grab some Meteor shots, with no success so far.  As I was driving to Palisades, I noticed a rather photogenic barn and treeline which I mentally noted to come back to on my way home if I struck out at Palisades.  Thankfully, I was able to grab a few solid shots which I stitched into a 4 shot panorama.  The final image is almost 8000 pixels wide (think about your 1900 pixel wide HD television...) so huge prints are possible with this finished image. I'll be featuring this photo as one of my Fine Art Prints of the month where I have 20x30...

Project Earth!!

Project Earth at Harmony Park this year was such an amazing experience. It's my fourth year now traveling to Harmony Park multiple times per year, and it just keeps getting better, every year. I'm very happy to finally be able to share my full set of "best of" images from this years Festival, available on my photo page. Hope you get a chance to check them out! --Rob Wandering Skunk - Photos

A new day dawns in Skunk History

A full Moon rose last night, just as WanderingSkunk.com is beginning to rise! Keep an eye out over the next few weeks as we add more content to the site, like some of my video projects and photo sessions over the last few months. In the meantime, please take a moment and stop by the Kickstarter project I am running with Useful Jenkins in order to fund the filming of my next music video with them in September! Festival Express, a new music video for Useful Jenkins -- Rob
